SARA 2027 Malaysia: Who Gets RM150 Monthly or RM100? STR Eligibility Explained

SARA 2027 Malaysia: Who Gets RM150 Monthly or RM100? STR Eligibility Explained

Malaysia's Budget 2027 announced expanded Sumbangan Asas Rahmah (SARA) assistance. Do not confuse monthly assistance for STR recipients with the separate two-payment programme for eligible adults who are not STR recipients. Implementation details for 2027 still require official confirmation.

SARA 2027: the key distinctions

According to the Prime Minister's Office Budget 2027 speech:

  • STR recipients: SARA of up to RM150 monthly, or up to RM1,800 annually; the maximum is not everyone's guaranteed entitlement.
  • Non-STR Malaysian citizens aged 18 and above: RM100 on two occasions, planned ahead of Aidilfitri and National Day. This includes eligible adults from the M40 group.
  • More spending locations: qualifying fresh produce and perishables at 216 designated FAMA farmers' markets and Tamu, subject to operational details.
Group Announced direction Important distinction
STR recipients Up to RM150 per month An upper limit, not a fixed rate for all
Non-STR Malaysian adults 18+ Two RM100 payments Separate from the STR monthly benefit
Non-STR M40 adults Included in announced adult assistance Final eligibility must be verified
People under 18 Not in the non-STR adult category Household support must be checked separately

Three household examples

Example 1: an STR household

RM150 × 12 = RM1,800 is the maximum annual illustration if the household's approved entitlement reaches that level. Do not multiply that amount by every family member automatically.

Example 2: two adults who are not STR recipients

If both are eligible Malaysian adults, each could receive RM100 twice, giving an illustrative combined RM400. Actual qualification must be confirmed for each person.

Example 3: an M40 worker

Not receiving STR does not automatically exclude a Malaysian adult from the separate two-payment programme. Check the final rules.

What can SARA buy?

The existing SARA programme uses MyKad purchases at participating outlets for approved essentials such as rice, eggs, bread, cooking oil, noodles and selected household supplies. The exact 2027 list must not be assumed from the 2026 list.

Budget 2027 also announced purchases of approved fresh produce at 216 designated FAMA farmers' markets and Tamu. Not every wet market or stall is necessarily participating.

How to check eligibility and balances

  1. Check your STR status for the correct year at the official STR portal.
  2. Read programme and retailer details at the official SARA website.
  3. Where available, use the official MyKasih app for approved balances and outlet details.
  4. Wait for the 2027 implementation notice rather than using an unofficial form or a stranger's registration link.

Frequently asked questions

Does everyone receive RM150 each month?

No. RM150 is the announced maximum monthly amount for STR recipients.

Can SARA be withdrawn at an ATM?

The existing scheme primarily supports approved purchases using MyKad, not cash withdrawals.

When can I check my 2027 entitlement?

Use the official timetable once released. The Budget speech gives planned payment occasions for non-STR adults but does not substitute for an individual eligibility decision.

Bottom line

Check STR status, assistance category, approved amount and participating outlets separately before planning how to spend SARA.
