Budget 2027 has announced MyKomuter50, a proposed RM50-per-month pass offering unlimited journeys on KTM Komuter lines for eligible Malaysian citizens. It is different from the existing My50, which provides eligible users with unlimited rides on Rapid KL services.

Important update (12 October 2026): The Ministry of Finance's Budget 2027 measures summary, page 27 explicitly states RM50 per month and unlimited journeys across KTM Komuter lines. The main budget speech had not detailed the price. However, the launch date, application method, full eligibility conditions and final operational rules are not yet established here. This is an announced 2027 measure, not evidence that the pass is already on sale.

At a glance: MyKomuter50 vs My50

Detail MyKomuter50 (announced for 2027) My50 (existing)
Announced price RM50/month RM50 for 30 days
Main operator KTMB / KTM Komuter Prasarana / Rapid KL
Unlimited trips Announced for all KTM Komuter lines, subject to operational rules Eligible LRT, MRT, Monorail, BRT, Rapid KL buses and feeders in Klang Valley
Who may use it? Eligible Malaysian citizens; precise conditions to follow Eligible Malaysians with valid MyKad/MyTentera under existing My50 rules
Start / purchase method Not yet confirmed Already available via existing My50 channels
ETS / KTM Intercity Not stated as covered Not covered
Key warning Do not assume particular payment cards, activation rules or stations before KTMB instructions Check MyRapid's current T&Cs

Bottom line: RM50 and the planned unlimited KTM Komuter coverage are in the official budget appendix. "50%" is not the discount rate, and MyKomuter50 is not simply another name for Rapid KL My50.

What exactly has the government announced?

The official Budget 2027 speech says MyKomuter50 is intended to benefit about 40,000 KTM Komuter users and could save commuters an average of up to RM160 per month. The more detailed Finance Ministry appendix states a RM50 monthly pass for eligible Malaysian citizens, with unlimited travel across KTM Komuter lines.

The phrase "average savings of up to RM160" is a policy estimate, not a personal guarantee. Your own saving depends on how often you ride, your ordinary fares and whether your exact journeys qualify under the final rules.

Does it cover Klang Valley, Northern Malaysia or Johor?

KTMB's current train timetable lists:

  • KTM Komuter Klang Valley, including Batu Caves–Pulau Sebang and Tanjung Malim–Pelabuhan Klang services.
  • Komuter Utara (Northern) services.
  • Komuter Selatan services, as well as other shuttle categories shown separately in its timetable.

The Finance Ministry appendix uses the broad phrase "all KTM Komuter lines" in the announced policy. This suggests the intended scope is wider than simply Rapid KL's Klang Valley network. But KTMB has not yet provided a definitive MyKomuter50 station list, eligible service types or activation rules in the information checked for this article.

For instance, a Johor-based traveller should distinguish Komuter Selatan from Shuttle Tebrau, Shuttle Selatan, ETS and Intercity. A KTMB-operated train is not automatically a KTM Komuter service. Confirm the actual service class and future pass conditions before counting on coverage.

KTM Komuter, ETS, MRT and LRT: do not mix them up

KTM Komuter is KTMB's commuter rail network. ETS and KTM Intercity are other KTMB services with separate fares and schedules. MRT, LRT, Monorail, BRT and Rapid KL buses belong to the Prasarana network used by My50, not KTM Komuter.

If you transfer between Rapid KL and KTM Komuter, do not assume that either RM50 pass covers both networks. The availability of combined travel or integration has not been confirmed.

How much could you save over 20 working days?

Consider someone travelling to work 20 days per month, with one outbound and one return trip daily: 40 single journeys.

The prices below are made-up example single-trip fares, not actual KTM fares. The RM50 pass cost is from the official budget proposal; savings assume every trip is eligible and no additional charges apply.

Hypothetical ordinary fare / trip 40 ordinary trips Proposed RM50 pass Illustrative saving
RM3 RM120 RM50 RM70
RM5 RM200 RM50 RM150
RM7 RM280 RM50 RM230

These figures are not promised savings. The government estimate of up to RM160 a month on average is separate from this hypothetical table.

At what point could RM50 be worthwhile?

Ignoring extra costs, divide RM50 by your actual ordinary fare per single trip to estimate the number of trips needed to break even. For example, with a fictional RM5 single fare, 10 trips cost RM50. Whether a pass is worthwhile depends on the actual permitted route, your number of journeys, validity period and final conditions.

Can you register or buy MyKomuter50 now?

Do not assume so. The October 2026 Budget announces the 2027 initiative, but the information checked does not establish an open application system or an official selling date. It also does not establish that you must activate MyKomuter50 using the same card or procedure as Rapid KL's My50.

Before acting, confirm these five details from KTMB's official website:

  1. Start date and where to buy or activate the pass.
  2. Eligibility, including citizenship/identity verification and any category restrictions.
  3. Participating Komuter services and stations, including Northern and Southern routes.
  4. Validity period, transfers, refunds and any use limits under the formal terms.
  5. Accepted payment and ticketing medium (physical card, digital app or other) once confirmed.

Do not pay unofficial agents or follow unverified "early registration" links.

Frequently asked questions

Is MyKomuter50 RM50 or 50% off?

The 2027 Budget measures summary states RM50 per month, not a blanket 50% discount.

Does MyKomuter50 offer unlimited travel?

Yes, this is the announced programme design across KTM Komuter lines, subject to the formal implementation and ticket-use rules.

Is it already available in October 2026?

The verified information is a 2027 policy announcement. A confirmed start date or open sales process has not been established.

Can I use MyKomuter50 on ETS, KTM Intercity or Rapid KL?

Do not assume so. The planned scheme is for KTM Komuter; the existing My50 is for eligible Rapid KL services.

Will it work in Penang or Johor?

The budget announces all KTM Komuter lines. KTMB publishes Northern and Southern commuter services, but passengers should wait for the final pass-specific route/station list and operational rules, particularly where shuttle and Komuter services differ.

Will everyone save RM160 monthly?

No. That is the government's estimated average benefit of up to RM160, not a guaranteed amount per passenger.

JomGuide verdict

The key confirmed offer is a planned RM50 monthly pass for unlimited KTM Komuter journeys—not a 50% discount. You can already compare it with My50, but wait for KTMB's launch notice and official terms before treating it as a usable ticket.
