KLIA Ekspres Rises to RM65 in 2027: Is It Still Worth It for 1, 2 or 4 Travellers?
From 1 January 2027, KLIA Ekspres adult fares rise to RM65 one-way and RM118 return, while the 10% online discount for standard tickets remains. Here is how the cost looks for one, two and four travellers, with KLIA parking prices as a reference.

From 1 January 2027, adult KLIA Ekspres fares will increase:
- One-way: RM55 → RM65
- Return: RM100 → RM118
If you already dislike driving to the airport, the useful question is not simply whether RM65 sounds expensive.
It is:
how much are you paying for a predictable journey, no parking and no need to drive?
The 10% online discount is staying
KLIA Ekspres has confirmed that the standard-ticket 10% online discount will continue after the 2027 fare adjustment when you buy through its website or mobile app.
Using the new 2027 fares:
One-way
RM65 × 90%
= RM58.50
Return
RM118 × 90%
= RM106.20
The comparisons below use this discounted standard online fare as a reference.
Return cost for 1, 2 and 4 travellers
| Travellers | 2027 standard return | After 10% online discount |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | RM118 | RM106.20 |
| 2 | RM236 | RM212.40 |
| 4 | RM472 | RM424.80 |
For one person, RM106.20 buys:
- no airport driving;
- no parking search;
- less exposure to highway traffic uncertainty;
- a journey of about 28 minutes from KL Sentral to KLIA T1.
That can be easy to justify.
As the group gets larger, however, rail cost rises with every passenger.
For two people, parking becomes a useful comparison
Malaysia Airports currently lists these online pre-book parking examples at KLIA Terminal 1:
Terminal 1 Car Park — 4-day short stay
RM220
Drive-in reference: RM364.
Long Term Car Park (LTCP) — 7 days
RM145
Drive-in reference: RM224.
Weekend, school-holiday and public-holiday bookings may carry an additional surcharge of up to 10%.
Important:
parking is not the total cost of driving to KLIA.
You still need to add:
- fuel;
- tolls;
- vehicle use;
- driving time;
- fatigue on the return journey.
Treat the parking figures as reference points, not complete driving totals.
A four-day trip: two travellers are already close
Two travellers using KLIA Ekspres online return tickets:
RM212.40
Four-day Terminal 1 pre-book parking:
RM220
On those two numbers alone, the train is slightly lower.
Driving then adds fuel and tolls.
If you already do not want to drive, two people may still find the train perfectly reasonable after the 2027 increase.
Your first- and last-mile cost matters, though. A long Grab ride to KL Sentral can change the calculation.
Four travellers: the cash gap becomes much larger
Four online return fares:
RM424.80
Four-day Terminal 1 parking:
RM220 + fuel + tolls
At this group size, driving starts to look much more competitive on cash cost.
But cash is not the only factor.
Ask:
- who is driving?
- is the flight very early or very late?
- how tired will the driver be after the return flight?
- how much luggage is there?
- are children or older family members travelling?
- how easy is KL Sentral from home?
The useful comparison is:
total cost + hassle + predictability.
A seven-day trip: LTCP has a stronger cash advantage
Malaysia Airports currently lists a 7-day LTCP pre-book reference of:
RM145
The LTCP provides a free 24/7 shuttle, with Malaysia Airports indicating roughly:
- 10 minutes to Terminal 1;
- 15 minutes to Terminal 2.
For four people, RM145 parking is obviously much lower than RM424.80 in standard discounted return train fares before adding road costs.
But the driving option still includes fuel, tolls and the inconvenience of driving and transferring by shuttle.
If the part you dislike most is driving to the airport, part of the rail fare is effectively paying to remove that job.
What else changes in 2027?
KLIA Ekspres says the new fares take effect on 1 January 2027.
It also states:
- current KLIA Ekspres frequency is around every 20 minutes;
- service is planned to increase to around every 15 minutes in Q1 2027;
- KL Sentral to KLIA T1 takes about 28 minutes;
- KLIA T2 adds roughly three more minutes.
ERL says this is its first fare adjustment since 2016.
Can you buy a future 2027 trip before the new fares start?
KLIA Ekspres says tickets can be purchased up to six months in advance.
If your travel date is already confirmed, check what the booking system offers before the new fare takes effect and read the ticket conditions shown at purchase.
What about family and group products?
ERL has also confirmed that selected products including the Family Package and Group Savers will be affected by the new fare structure.
That means a family of four should not automatically assume the only option is four standard adult tickets.
When booking:
check the current Family Package or Group Saver price before comparing.
Those product prices may change the final decision.
What if you simply do not want to drive?
Then the decision is easier to frame.
You are not only buying a train ride.
You are paying for:
- predictable journey time;
- no toll-driving task;
- no parking search;
- no long airport drive;
- no tired drive home after the flight.
For one or two travellers, that convenience can remain valuable even after the fare increase.
For four or more, it becomes more worthwhile to compare the full door-to-door numbers carefully.
Bottom line
1 traveller
KLIA Ekspres remains easy to justify if you value not driving.
2 travellers
Do not assume the train is automatically expensive. The 2027 online return total of about RM212.40 is already close to some short-stay parking references.
4 travellers
Driving becomes more competitive on cash cost, although petrol, tolls and the burden of driving still matter.
The real comparison is not:
RM65 versus parking.
It is:
your total door-to-door cost, hassle and travel-time certainty.
