SARA October 2026: Why Some Malaysians Get RM50, RM100, RM150 or RM200
The October SARA monthly amount is not the same for everyone. Your STR category and whether you are recorded under eKasih determine whether the monthly MyKad credit is RM50, RM100, RM150 or RM200.

If you check your SARA balance this month, the most useful question may no longer be how to spend it.
It may be:
Why did someone else get RM200 while I got RM100? Why are some people seeing RM50 or RM150?
The amount is not random. SARA 2026 monthly entitlements depend mainly on:
- your STR 2026 category; and
- whether you are recorded as Miskin / Miskin Tegar under eKasih.
How much is the monthly SARA amount in October?
According to the official SARA 2026 FAQ, the monthly amount for Phase 1 STR 2026 recipients remains the same from January through December.
Household
Miskin / Miskin Tegar eKasih:
RM200 per month
Other approved STR 2026 households:
RM100 per month
Senior citizen without spouse
Miskin / Miskin Tegar eKasih:
RM150 per month
Other approved recipients:
RM50 per month
Single
Miskin / Miskin Tegar eKasih:
RM100 per month
Other approved STR 2026 singles:
RM50 per month
So a lower amount does not automatically mean the system credited you incorrectly.
First compare your own eligibility category.
Monthly SARA and the RM100 one-off are different
Malaysia also introduced the RM100 one-off SARA Untuk Semua for eligible adult Malaysian citizens in 2026.
That is separate from the recurring SARA Bulanan entitlement.
A household may therefore have several SARA balances across different family members' MyKad, but the monthly entitlement should not be confused with the one-off RM100.
Unused monthly balance carries forward
The official SARA rules state that unused monthly credit can be carried into later months.
So if you still had RM40 remaining from September, it does not automatically disappear when October arrives.
That also means there is no need to buy unnecessary items just to clear the balance every month.
But the 2026 balance does expire
Carry-forward does not mean the credit lasts forever.
Any unused SARA 2026 balance expires after 31 December 2026.
If you have been accumulating credit, November and December are good times to check your remaining balance instead of discovering a large unused amount at the end of the year.
What can RM200 realistically cover?
SARA is not a cash withdrawal programme.
The MyKad credit is used at participating retailers for approved essential items.
A normal household basket might include rice, cooking oil, eggs, bread or noodles, milk, laundry products and personal-care items.
Actual prices vary by brand, pack size, location and promotions.
The practical value is simple:
if you already need to buy these essentials, SARA can reduce the amount of cash your household needs to spend on them.
The useful comparison is your category, not someone else's balance
It is easy to see a friend's RM200 balance and assume your RM100 is wrong.
But the amount follows eligibility categories.
Before comparing numbers, confirm:
What is my STR category, and do I have eKasih status?
Then compare your entitlement with the official table.
Three things to check now
- Confirm your SARA / STR eligibility category.
- Check your current MyKad balance.
- Remember the final validity date: 31 December 2026.
If the amount does not match what you believe your eligibility should be, verify it through official SARA or STR channels rather than relying on social-media screenshots.
