How to Check eGUMIS for Unclaimed Money in Malaysia — and Claim It Online
Many Malaysians do not realise they can check eGUMIS for unclaimed money using their identification number. There is no minimum claim amount, no application fee and no official agent required.

Many Malaysians have heard of Wang Tak Dituntut (WTD) without realising they can search for it directly through JANM's eGUMIS portal.
The official FAQ makes several useful points clear:
- there is no minimum amount for a claim;
- there is no time limit set by the Registrar for claiming WTD;
- there is no charge for submitting a WTD claim;
- the Ministry of Finance and JANM have not appointed companies, firms or individuals as agents to manage claims.
That means even a RM10 or RM20 record can be claimed if you are entitled to it and are willing to complete the required steps.
What kind of money can appear in eGUMIS?
Unclaimed money can come from records such as:
- savings or current accounts;
- fixed deposits;
- insurance;
- salary;
- dividends;
- deposits;
- trading accounts;
- banker's cheques or demand drafts;
- other money transferred by a company or firm to the Registrar.
Once money is transferred to the Registrar, it does not mean the rightful owner loses the right to claim it.
Official portal: eGUMIS
Step 1: Search using your identification number
JANM allows individuals to search WTD records online using an identification number.
The official eGUMIS process is:
- open eGUMIS;
- select the unclaimed-money search function;
- search using your identification number;
- review any matching record;
- select the record you want to claim.
Before moving on, check:
- the company or firm connected to the record;
- the amount;
- whether the identity details match yours.
What if the amount is only RM10 or RM20?
There is no official minimum claim amount.
So the question is not whether a small amount is allowed. It is whether you are willing to provide the documents required for that record.
If the online process is clear and your documents are already available, a small amount is still legally claimable.
Step 2: Continue with the online claim
JANM's FAQ sets out the online process:
- search for the WTD record;
- choose the record you want to claim;
- click Teruskan Dengan Permohonan;
- add the recipient;
- indicate when the recipient and applicant are the same person;
- enter banking information;
- upload mandatory supporting documents;
- accept the declaration and terms;
- submit the application;
- check the application status through eGUMIS.
This is why a useful eGUMIS guide needs to explain both sides: how to search and what to do after you actually find money.
Basic documents for an individual claim
For common categories such as insurance, salary, dividends, deposits and other payable money, JANM lists documents including:
- the UMA-7 eGUMIS claim form;
- a copy of the identification document, front and back;
- a copy of the front page of an active savings/current bank book or an active bank statement showing:
- full name;
- bank account number;
- bank name.
Payment is credited directly to the approved bank account.
JANM also states that Tabung Haji accounts, investment accounts, loan accounts and e-wallets are not accepted as the payment account for these claims.
What if the name or identification details do not match?
The information in eGUMIS comes from the company or firm that originally transferred the unclaimed money.
If the name or identification number does not match the Registrar's record, JANM instructs claimants to refer to the original company or firm and obtain a confirmation letter establishing ownership and explaining the discrepancy.
Do not simply alter the information yourself.
Can you claim money belonging to a deceased family member?
Potentially, yes — but this is where claims become more document-heavy.
For an estate claim, JANM lists documents such as:
- UMA-7;
- the heir's or administrator's identification document;
- an active bank account statement;
- death certificate;
- the applicable estate-administration authority, such as a Grant of Probate, Letters of Administration or other recognised Surat Kuasa Mentadbir;
- other documents relevant to the WTD type.
JANM specifically notes that a Sijil Faraid is not itself a Surat Kuasa Mentadbir.
Being a child or spouse does not automatically mean the money can simply be paid into your account without proof of authority.
What about company, joint-account or unusual claims?
The document list can differ for:
- company claims;
- joint accounts;
- fixed deposits;
- banker's cheques;
- non-Malaysian claimants;
- dissolved companies;
- estate claims.
The safest approach is to identify the actual WTD category first, then follow the matching eGUMIS checklist.
A single generic social-media checklist may not apply to your case.
Scam warning: the official claim process is free
This deserves prominent placement.
JANM says there is no charge for a WTD claim.
It also says MOF and JANM have not appointed an agent to manage claims on behalf of the public.
Be cautious if someone says:
- pay a commission first;
- transfer a processing fee;
- give them your bank login;
- send sensitive identification information because they are an “official agent”.
You can search and apply through eGUMIS yourself.
Do not miss the seven-working-day document requirement when it applies
For claim categories requiring original supporting documents, JANM states that the originals must be submitted through the counter or registered post within seven working days after the online application.
Not every straightforward claim necessarily requires the same original documents.
But if the FAQ or your eGUMIS application says an original is required, uploading a scan and then doing nothing may leave the application incomplete.
A simple first-time checklist
- Use the official eGUMIS portal.
- Search with your identification number.
- Review the source and amount of any record.
- Select the WTD you want to claim.
- Prepare your identification copy, active bank statement and required supporting documents.
- Submit the online claim.
- Send any required original documents within the stated period.
- Check status through eGUMIS.
You do not need to assume the process is only worthwhile if a large amount appears.
The useful facts are simpler:
checking is available online, there is no minimum claim amount, and the official claim process does not require a paid agent.
